Travelling with the Generation Black Deep Striker – Ian Seeto

It doesn’t matter if you are heading down the road, going on a road trip or boarding a plane, when it comes to land based fishing, one of the biggest dilemmas we all face is finding a rod that is easily transported.  Two piece rods are nice but for the best part of 2015, I’ve never been too far from my Generation Black, Deepstriker travel rod.

After a bit of research, I decided to get my hands on the Daiwa Generation Black, Deepstriker 703MLFS.  At 2.13m in length, this rod is designed for casting heavier lures in amongst heavy structure and looked to be the best compromise as an all round travel rod.  Matched with my Daiwa Sol II 2508 or 3000 size reel, I think this is a well balanced combination which has been used on many occasions from floating nippers for whiting and trevally in Merimbula to pitching poppers to estuary barra in Port Douglas.

Quickly reducing to 3 pieces, this rod also comes with a nice travel bag which safely protects the rod when sitting behind the back seat of the ute.  When boarding a plane, I have a nice short rod tube that isn’t too bulky or cumbersome to travel with, or if I’m travelling for more than a few days, it fits nicely into my duffle bag.
