DAIWA FISHING TIPS: MAKING THE MOVE BY MARK BARGENQUAST
Posted on
Well after living in SE Queensland for the past 40 years it’s been refreshing to relocate to far north queensland. I’ve been guiding in Weipa on and off now for 6 years so it was the logical place to move to, and the bonus is the fishing is great!
It’s always a big decision as to what tackle I need to change but honestly the gear I was using, zillion baitcasters, daiwa ballistic, freams, saltigas and catalinas as well as black label and gen black rods were all perfect after fishing hervey bay. The fishing in North queensland is not much different, still plenty of longtails, heaps more queenfish and my big salty barras have been replaced by smaller versions in the creeks as well as big fingermark, jacks and trevally on the inshore reefs.
Full time guiding really tests the gear and after a solid 5 months of torture on the fantastic J-Braid I can honestly say it’s a world class product. It lays perfect on baitcasters and spin reels, casts well with minimal wind knots and has excellent abrasion resistance around the hard stuff.
Well the next 2 months will see us camping out in remote areas of the western cape York, living in swags in the boats and hard core fishing so look forward to some tackle reviews, techniques and hopefully some great pics!
